1. Các dạng so sánh của tính từ
1.1 So sánh bằng
Cấu trúc so sánh bằng: as + Adj + as + N
- Lan is 18 years old. My younger sister is also 18 years old. Lan is as young as my younger sister.
(Lan 18 tuổi. Em gái của tôi cũng 18 tuổi. Lan thì trẻ tuổi như em gái tôi)
- Water is as cold as ice.
(Nước thì lạnh như băng)
1.2 So sánh hơn
- Tính từ ngắn là tính từ có một âm tiết như bad, short, good…Hoặc tính từ có hai âm tiết nhưng kết thúc bằng -y, -le, -ow, -er, -et như happy, gentle, narrow, clever, quiet…
- Cấu trúc so sánh hơn của tính từ ngắn: adj + -er + (than)
Ví dụ:
- He is taller than his father.
(Anh ấy cao hơn bố của anh ấy)
- Today is colder than yesterday.
(Hôm nay thì lạnh hơn hôm qua)
- Các tính từ có từ hai âm tiết trở lên được gọi là tính từ dài như normal, beautiful, intelligent, expensive…
- Cấu trúc so sánh hơn của tính từ dài: more + adj + (than)
Ví dụ:
- A lion is more dangerous than an elephant.
(Sư tử thì nguy hiểm hơn voi)
- This chair is more comfortable than that chair.
(Chiếc ghế này thoải mái hơn chiếc ghế kia)
1.3 So sánh nhất
Cấu trúc so sánh nhất của tính từ ngắn: the adj + -est + (N)
Ví dụ:
- I’m the youngest person in my family.
(Tôi là người trẻ tuổi nhất trong gia đình tôi)
- This is the longest river in the world.
(Đây là con song dài nhất trên thế giới)
Cấu trúc so sánh nhất của tính từ dài: the most + adj + (N)
Ví dụ:
- The most frightening film I’ve ever seen was IT.
(Bộ phim đáng sợ nhất mà tôi từng xem là IT)
- Lily is the most careful person I ever have known.
(Lily là người cẩn thận nhất mà tôi từng biết)
Các tính từ bất qui tắc
Adj/adv Comparative Superlative good/ well better the best bad worse the worst little less the least many/much more the most far farther/ further the farthest/furthest
